Katya founded her law firm in order to provide her clients with more personal attention in resolving their legal matters in a timely and efficient way. Katya believes that one can enjoy life more fully when one’s affairs are in order, the assets are protected and one’s family is taken care of. Katya enjoys helping seniors and their loved ones in planning for long term care, quality of life, autonomy, and asset preservation. Her practice focuses on estate planning, probate and estate administration, Medicaid planning, elder law, and business succession matters.

Prior to law school, Katya spent twelve years working for several top Wall Street financial companies. Her experience includes senior positions in investment banking and securities industries, giving Katya a unique ability to deal with complicated financial matters. Katya, Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA®), can understand the tax problems, accounting issues, investment portfolios and general business matters of her clients. Prior to starting her own firm, Katya worked for two prominent law firms, representing dozens of clients with issues ranging from business succession planning and complicated estate tax matters to Medicaid planning and fraud investigations.

Katya holds a Bachelors of Science degree in Economics from Cornell University. She earned her Juris Doctor from the Brooklyn Law School, graduating Magna Cum Laude. She is admitted to practice in the State of New York. Katya is a member of the New York State Bar Association, New York City Bar Association, Brooklyn Bar Association, Trusts and Estates Law Section of New York State Bar Association, and the Elder Law Section of New York State Bar Association.

Aside from her dedication to the practice of law, Katya is also committed to her community. Katya teaches Estate Planning 101 at the Brooklyn Lifelong Institute at Brooklyn College. She is a frequent lecturer about issues related to Asset Protection, Estate Planning, Medicaid Planning, Tax Planning, and other questions related to her areas of practice. Katya gives regular presentations to senior citizens through the Brooklyn Bar Leap organization and was a volunteer in the Kings County Housing Court. Katya is also a prolific writer of blog posts that keep both professionals and consumers abreast of changes in the law and interesting new ideas.

Ashley Hall
Associate Attorney

Ashley Hall practices in the areas of estate planning, elder law, probate and estate administration. She joined Sverdlov Law in February 2023. Ashley has helped many clients formulate estate plans which include drafting both Irrevocable and Revocable Trusts, Last Will and Testaments and other ancillary documents. In addition, she works with clients to guide them through probate and administration proceedings in Surrogate’s Court.

In addition to her work here, Ashley also practices in the areas of construction litigation, contracts, guardianships, and trust administration.

Ashley Hall earned her Bachelor of the Arts Degree, magna cum laude, in Psychology from Dowling College in 2008. She then went on to earn her Juris Doctor degree, summa cum laude, from Touro College Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center in 2011. While in law school, Ashley was a member of the Moot Court Honor Board.

Initially starting out her legal career as a litigator, Ashley transitioned to elder law and estate planning many years ago after discovering how fulfilling it was to assist families, couples and individuals plan for their future and to support them during the difficult and often overwhelming time after the loss of a loved one.

Ashley is admitted to practice law in the State of New York and in the State of New Jersey.

Rochelle Abrahams
Paralegal

Rochelle joined the Sverdlov team in 2020. She provides daily support to clients, responding to their concerns and offering insights into how their cases are progressing. She is usually the first person that a client will speak with when calling the firm!

Rochelle brings with her over 10 years of experience from diverse job roles, including personal assistant, internal sales administrator, and webmaster roles. Before joining the Sverdlov Law team, Rochelle worked as a personal assistant at New Media Publishing for seven years, perfecting her customer service and administrative skills.

Her high attention to detail coupled with her loyalty and drive help keep Sverdlov Law running smoothly. From estate planning to elder law, Rochelle handles all of the moving parts that help Sverdlov provide the highest quality legal representation.

Julia Ashikhmin
Administrative Assistant

Julia started her legal career as an intern, maintaining Sverdlov Law’s social media presence through blogs and Facebook posts and helping Katya with research and organizing files. She is now an integral part of the team.

Julia’s burgeoning legal career started with a passion for politics and an impulse towards the greater good. In the lead-up to the 2020 election, Julia helped increase voter registration as part of the Reclaim Our Vote campaign, writing postcards to underrepresented voters in swing states. In addition, she was promoted to a Text Moderator for the 2020 Victory Biden Campaign, helping to run the texting team of over five thousand people to ensure Democratic turnout in 2020. Previously, she was an intern for the NY State Assemblywoman Yuh-Line Niou, where she implemented social media strategy to reach constituents with information about Representative Niou’s policies, including press releases and Instagram posts.

Virginia Mims
Client Happiness Coordinator

Originally from South Florida, Virginia Mims is a talented performer who holds both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Indiana University. Emerging as a notable figure in the opera world, Virginia channels her passion for communication not only through music but also through her role at Sverdlov Law, where she delights in engaging with clients and nurturing genuine connections. Drawing upon her extensive musical training, Virginia brings a wealth of knowledge to her work, demonstrating keen attention to detail, a strong work ethic, and a collaborative mindset that fosters a thriving environment for both clients and the firm.

With a decade of experience in administrative tasks and client relations, Virginia has served as an artist manager, office administrator, and content creator for various establishments including salons, schools, and medical offices. At the core of her motivation lies a commitment to serving her community and simplifying people’s lives. She seamlessly integrates these skills into her role at Sverdlov Law, meticulously managing client interactions and ensuring their needs remain at the forefront of the office’s priorities.
